Tallwood-project CLT tour in Northern Finland Jun 14 2022

Vocational College Lappia organized for the project group a tour and information day of the Cross Laminated Timber -products in Kemi, Tervola and Rovaniemi.
The day began early in the morning with a meeting of Tallwood members in the CLT learning environment of Lappia. After a brief introduction of the theory, the project group moved on to look at the actual practical machines of production which are the same ones used by the industry today. Tytti Ahoranta of Digipolis Oy and Tommi Lepojärvi of Lappia`s Circular Economy Project also participated in the meeting. They briefly presented some of Lapland's circular economy solutions and the related ACEF-project.
At the beginning of the meeting Matti Yliniemi presented the general principles of CLT manufacturing and the progress of the CLT project in Lappia. After a brief introduction of the theory, the project group moved on to look at the actual practical machines of production which are the same ones used by the industry today. After the presentation of CLT-learning environment, there was a brief discussion on future projects and project ideas and it was decided to return to the issue in August, with more time.
After lunch, the project group visited to Vaaran Palkki Oy in Tervola (a new factory of cross laminated log production) Thanks to Vaaran Palkki for the opportunity to visit their factory. After that there was a visit to DAS Kelo multi-storey CLT building in Rovaniemi. The Domus Arctica Foundation wanted to provide students with a safe and healthy residential building that would serve as a landmark both for Rovaniemi and for environmental values.
